What will I do?

Once we hit our target membership we will be able to buy a slate of great independent movies that you choose. We will start with one film, Buy it, then Release it at cinemas across the UK and Ireland and then on DVD. Members will make all the key decisions affecting the movie and its promotion.

How much does it cost?

£15. 10% maximum goes towards the administration of the website and company. The rest of the money goes on buying and releasing movies. That’s around the price of a new DVD, and it gives you the opportunity to be involved with the film, taking Social commerce to a whole new level.

Where are you now ?

At this stage, we are inviting people to register their interest in this initiative. So far we have already had very positive interest. We’ve also had help of the Co-Operative UK and Dogwoof to cover our costs for film festival attendance, and to register with the FSA.

What say do I have?

It's an equal Community. All equal partners. If you own a share then no one else has more power than you. Members will be able to discuss and have an equal vote on movie selection, acquisition, marketing, promotion, and all key decisions on the running of the club.

What Rewards are there?

As well as a share of the profits, and numerous perks and freebies., it will also be a lot of fun.

What movies could we buy?

The choice is surprisingly wide. Maybe a little USA indie, like Half Nelson, or a great foreign title like The Lives of Others, or something home grown like Control. All independent movies. The choice will be yours which movie to buy.

TheMoviesClub will acquire a movie only on the basis that the purchase provides a controlling stake (51%+) of the movie and ideally 100%.

What difference can we make to a movie ?

TheMoviesClub will be looking for this years Pan's Labyrinth or Control, and bringing it to a cinema near you. There are many quality indie movies that are made each year, and either lack a buyer or do not receive sufficient funding to make them a success to the nationwide public. TheMoviesClub answers both of these issues using the power of Microfinance, real fan power.

Why change the current business models?

They don’t work for independents. Director Alan Parker himself stated that the future of the movie industry lay in the evolving of distribution and this is the first step for a different business model to take the industry away from reliance on major studios for successful movie releases.

How will you decide which movies to move forward with?

Everyone helps decide by voting. Movies can be suggested by members that they have read about, as well as spotted at Film Festivals. These will be shortlisted and available to choose from, with frequent updates to the "Popular Movies" section of the website.

But its only for the Rich?

No. Membership costs only £15. But the beauty of a co-operative is that together we can raise over $1 million and you have an equal share. So you can be a mini-mogul.

How about admin costs?

Administration costs are capped at 10% to ensure most of the money goes into the buying and releasing of the movies. no large overheads, no huge salaries. TheMoviesClub also leverages the Internet to slash the traditional costs of discovering new movies and building an audience. There's nothing wrong with the basic concept of a distribution label: you need to discover, nurture and market new talent. The problem with the current model is that it is expensive to unearth new movies. TheMoviesClub changes the model. It does not rely on selling a half a million DVDs to make a profit.

What will happen to the profits ?

The members will decide whether to take the profit or to re-invest and buy and promote more films. Each time potentially buying bigger and better films.

Are there any other benefits?

We will be inviting members to screenings, and events as well as giving you an insight into the movie industry. Plus you will all get a credit on the DVD of the movies. And we are talking to our partners for other discounts and vouchers and many more exclusive offers.

What will I do?

What can I do on the site?

Any member can discuss movies to buy, ideas for promoting the movies, and many other areas relating to the club and the management of the movies. You will also get to vote on numerous decisions.

Also feel free to chat on our forum that is coming soon about new releases, film stuff, and well, anything you like.

How does the voting work?

If you're a registered member, you can vote on each idea one time by simply clicking on the "vote" icon.

When will we start voting / buying?

Phase 1 is now, and we launch this initial information site and allow our initial members on board registering interest.

Phase 2 starts shortly, and we will develop the community features and allow members to login and interact. At this point we will also ask for payment of the joining fee.

Phase 3 is the final push to get over 50,000 members which will give us our $1 million fund. Then we can go shopping for movies, and the real adventure begins.

After that the fun starts, with the first acquisition and release campaign, as voted for by you and the members of the club.
