Simply put, it is the world's first movie distribution co-operative managed online, and setup to buy and manage movies. It's also a club, hence the name. Setup in early 2008 TheMoviesClub is a microfinance initiative whose members are going to bring a whole new approach to movie distribution. Who says that a Hollywood mogul knows more than 50,000 plus members of the public? Over the next few weeks and months we will be developing the site to enable members to interact and bring to life this new initiative. TheMoviesClub was setup early 2008 , built entirely on the concept that the members know best, Wisdom of the crowds, so to speak. Like the Music industry the existing business models in the movie industry are broken. So TheMoviesClub sets out to prove that social commerce can work better than existing traditional models. Who says that a Hollywood studio mogul knows more than 50,000 plus members of the public.

This caught my eye because I own the domain "smartcrowds.com" and got this courtesy of google alerts.

I believe in this change whole-heartedly, and am personally trying to work on collaboration between companies & consumers to take the practice of marketing to the next level (through the BrandAdda product, at http://brandadda.com). But like this article says, Marketing execs of the past and present are used to existing ways, and it will take some strong convincing and time to crack the nut.

Here's to SMARTCROWDS!
