First Movie on it’s way

We will be finalising our short list of movies in May.  And so the process begins for our members of buying the  first movie.   We will split the movies up into themes, and have trailers and clips available on our soon to be launched on demand website.  Watch this space for more news.

Cannes Film Festival. We’ll be there!

A few of us will be out at the Cannes Film Festival during the course of this week.

Whilst Raiders of the Lost Ark is out of our league, Cannes is a treasure trove of independent movies.

We’ll look to post a few recommendations, a mix of what will be award winning, and also spotting some of the more commercial movies upon our return.

Besides all the mingling, we’ll be shouting TheMoviesClub concept from the rooftops, and getting the word out to as many people in the industry as possible.

We’ve enlisted the help of our friends at Moo, so if we are fortunate to meet you whilst out there you will probably have one of these thrust into your hands before we say our goodbyes.

Upcoming Events

Being a club it’s nice for members to meet face to face, and not just interact online. So we will be setting up movie screenings each month.  Some will be classic independent movies, that are simply good movies. The majority will be showing movies that have not been released and are potential acquisitions for TheMoviesClub.

Our first surprise movie will be shown in June, so watch out for further announcements.

Long Tail wags the dog

Some of the Studios are now thinking they are dominating the online space, ie they have a website and a new way to get more money out of their audiences.  Philippe Dauman of Viacom states “If you have a great brand supported by great content, there has never been a better time to reach more consumers”.

But we think they are still seeing the world from a rather conventional point of view, and that they think the internet is simply an extra channel to extend their reach.

Looking at the independent sector, things are far less clear.  New efficient ways are needed to reach increasingly fractured audiences, and not just territory by territory.  Our view is that we need better movies, obviously.  And it’s key to build a conversation with Audiences, and let them influence the creative aspects.  If you start to do that, then there is a chance to prosper in the new world, and over time the Long tail will start wagging the dog.
